In honor of the arrival of the 2006 MX-5 Miata, Mazda has loaded the new MX-5 on top of a fire truck and is burning up the highway across the country, with a first stop in our nation's capital - WASHINGTON D.C. In each city we are teaming up with a local fire department to raise funds for fire safety education efforts, providing a great community connection at each stop and an added hook to generate media coverage for the new MX-5.

While the MX-5 is in the D.C. metropolitan area it will be making stops to not only give you a chance to see the car up close and personal, but also create a heat wave of excitement as it tours high-traffic consumer areas. This is a great opportunity for local clubs to see and sit in the new MX-5 Miata and simultaneously generate awareness and funds for our local fire department partner, the Alexandria Virginia Fire Department. We hope you will come out to see the new MX-5 at various destination points across the metropolitan area, caravanning along the way for some added fun.

Below is the schedule for metro Washington D.C "stop," including a description of what will take place at each stop. We look forward to seeing you!

Day One

  • Load-In Location - Thursday, April 7th @ 5:30 AM:
  • Landmark Mall - In front of SEARS
  • 5801 Duke Street (near corner of 395); Alexandria, Virginia 22304; (703) 354-8405

    - We invite you to come and watch the unveiling of the MX-5 as it is removed from its trailer and fork lifted up on to the fire truck. We already have Fox News coming out to cover the start of our tour (arriving at approximately 6:00 AM so please arrive on-time to get ready to smile for the cameras!).

    - From this point we hope you will join the caravan as it travels into the District, making a lap around the Mall and then back out to our fire station partner

  • Fire Station Location - Thursday, April 7th @ 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM: Alexandria Fire Department #202 (a.k.a. Alexandria #2)
  • 213 East Windsor Avenue (near corner of Mt. Vernon Avenue); Alexandria, VA 22301; (703) 838-4925

    - MAIN EVENT: A must-see! Here is where you can see the MX-5 up close and personal. The car will be lowered from the fire truck and removed from its clear case and set on the street for you and other Miata fans to sit in and touch the hot new MX-5.

    - The media will be invited to attend this event, and our partners at the Alexandria Fire Department will talk about the importance of fire safety education efforts and thank Mazda for raising awareness and funds for this effort.

    - After the VIP viewing of the MX-5, the truck will be making its way throughout the greater D.C area visiting high-traffic areas. We hope you all can join the fun and caravan with us around town!

  • Evening Location - Thursday, April 7th @ 7:00 PM:
  • Westfield Shoppingtown - In front of Hecht's
  • 7101 Democracy Boulevard; Bethesda, MD 20817; (301) 469-6025

    - So as not to leave out any club members in Maryland, once we are finished driving around the DC metro area, visiting high-traffic locations and stopping by local TV stations and newspapers outlets for additional interviews, we are heading to Westfield for another viewing opportunity

    - We will be referencing this location in our media outreach, inviting consumers to Westfield to see the new MX-5. The car will stay on top of the fire truck but attending consumers will still be one of the first in the world to see the new MX-5 even riding up high on top of the fire truck.

    - After our Westfield stop we will be driving back to the District to our host hotel for the evening.

    Day Two

In the morning we will be visiting local TV and radio stations in the District, offering weatherman and automotive buffs at the media to come out to see firsthand the new MX-5. Given the limited parking and street availability at these stations, we will only be bringing the fire truck to these media opportunities.

  • Afternoon Location - Friday, April 8th @ Noon:
  • RFK Stadium, 2400 East Capitol Street, S.E. (Independence Avenue SE - Parking Lot; look for the fire truck); Washington, D.C. 20003

    - Here is another possible location to join the caravan! As people roam the streets of DC, they won't miss the MX-5 on top of a fire truck as it circles the streets around RFK Stadium and other key locations in the area.

    - Note: Caravan of Mazda Clubs and car/truck combo will circle DC "Mall" and then head back to Alexandria for the "load out"

  • Load-Out Location - Friday, April 8th @ 3:00 PM:
  • Landmark Mall - In front of SEARS
