We hope you are all getting as excited about
going the National Miata Event of 2002 as we are about getting it ready
for you. We are looking forward to
seeing you in about two and half months.
A National Miata Event is a gathering of
friendly Miata owners that are as enthusiastic about owning and driving their
Miata as you are about your Miata. Most
of us all take the long, scenic routes home whenever we can and wash our cars
more frequently than our neighbors.
Most of our cars have “names” and vanity plates to identify them. We frequently, accessorize our cars with
pride of ownership. A National
gathering gives us a chance to see what others are doing with their cars and to
share stories of scenic drives we’ve been on and.
What is a Scenic Drive?
Scenic drives are drives on roads that avoid the
double lane highways, the freeways, and Interstate highways. The roads are curvy with reasonable speed
limits. The roads are tree lined and go
through forests, farm and ranch land, and up and down hills and mountains. You
don’t mind driving slowly, especially if you are following another Miata, but
you love to take the curves fast. To
many of us “Deal’s Gap” (located in North Carolina) is a place that every Miata
owner should have gone at least once.
How to Get to the Event?
“Take the Scenic Routes”. Sometimes that is easier said that done, but
that’s half the fun. First of all you have to take the time and that depends on
you. We find that it is usually much
easier to take some extra days before the Event to casually get to a National
Event. One way to avoid the
Interstates, and take some nice roads, is to take the old roads that run near
the Interstates; the ones that the Interstate “replaced”. That way you can
always get onto an Interstate if you are “running late” to your destination for
the day. Use MapQuest www.mapquest.com/
to give an idea of the most direct route to the hotel. Then “Take the Scenic
Routes” and roads less traveled to get to the Event. The map in this packet
will show you where this Event is located.
We have found that taking the Amtrak AutoTrain is a nice relaxing way to go home after a major driving event. One of the East coast terminals is located very near to the location of the National Miata Event of 2002.
What to Wear?
Dress is causal for all activities. The weather
is unpredictable in September, so be prepared for hot or cold days and
nights. For those new to packing an
older Miata with the space tire taking up truck space, we recommend removing it
from the trunk and putting it behind the passenger seat.
As you can see from the Event Schedule, we have
planned a full schedule of activities and events for. We suggest you consider adding
a few days to either end your stay to enjoy the area, as we are sure you will
discover more things to do and places to go than you’ll be able to do during
the four days of the Event. The hotel should allow you to extend your stay at
the discounted rate.
We have added a special event for those
interesting in wine tasting. Bring a bottle of your favorite wine from your
state or just your favorite wine to this special event after the Friday night
barbecue dinner.
